SlideRocket: The Latest and Greatest in Presentation Creation!
Posted on April 23, 2008
SlideRocket is prepping to go public this June. Until then, the hype for its release is building. In a nutshell, this program takes Microsoft’s PowerPoint to a whole new level. This program can be described as a presentation system that can be used both in a web browser and as an offline Adobe AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) application. This AIR application is really great for the presentation developer to be able to take code written for the online web browser and make it accessible for your desktop. This way, you can access the presentation even if you are offline, and this is especially helpful if you are presenting somewhere with little or no internet connection.
The features of sliderocket are really cool. Live data being populated from Google Spreadsheet, SalesForce, or other third party applications is something that will certainly be useful among many consultants and sales people!
Other decent features include
- PowerPoint import/export abilities
- Use of rich, interactive media
- New, innovative layouts
- Collaborative, team-oriented software
- Really rich graphics across the board
We have to admit it is graphically pleasing for the eye and it creates beautiful, entertaining presentations. Another unique attribute of SlideRocket is a community marketplace. Here, content and services are easily shared and transacted over the web. They are also currently developing the plug-in feature to enhance your presentation even more.
The CEO is Mark Grasso, also the creator of SlideRocket. He used the programs Flex and Amazon’s S3 to make the previously mentioned features possible. After the user is finished developing a rich, interactive presentation, he/she can easily share it publicly on a blog or privately to selected users. There is copy-protection for your work, as well as security features to keep the access private. This is really important considering the easy plagiarism and data theft chances people take advantage of these days. The allowed viewers can be given the option to make corrections and updates directly to the presentation and those changes will be available immediately to all other viewers. This is great for a client presentation using real-time numbers. While you’re leading up to the point, the numbers are constantly being updated. This is pretty impressive for a client to see, if you ask me.
After almost two years of developing, SlideRocket was included in the “Under the Radar Conference” held this past March. Its debut was huge and they walked away with 3 out of 4 possible awards.
SlideRocket will be available for free for the individual user, and for a yet-to-be disclosed amount for business use. This is the perfect application for a client-based company, especially those that highly utilize team efforts.
What would be cool is if there is an integration directly to slideshare.net, where you can share the slides you created with others. Also a facebook application of some sort would really help this utility take off among the young audience. Otherwise the stunning graphics and extremely modern features will probably just sell itself!
